So… I get this nice and friendly message from Apple saying that there is an update for my iPhone. After thinking about it over the course of an hour, I decided to start the process of updating the firmware.
First, I open iTunes and sync the phone (backup) and disconnect the USB. Then I close iTunes (habit) and re-open it. I reconnect the iPhone to the USb and then to the computer. Next I follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.
Along the way, Apple gives me some messages and progress bars, assuring me that things are happening and moving right along.
Then, all of a sudden I get an error 1013 saying that my iPhone cannot be restored! GASP!
I made several attempts to restore, and on multiple computers. No luck. Dead iPhone. Now what?
Google to the rescue. Bad, Apple.
