Magic Lantern for Canon T3i

UPDATE: We’ve written a lot more about Magic Lantern since this article. See more.

I’ve mentioned several times that I’ve gone with the Canon T3i camera. Ive talked about why and discussed some of the features. One of the issues I was worried about missing out on, by choosing the T3i over the T2i, was the availability of the Magic Lantern hack.Recently, the T3i received an official firmware update from Canon. Magic Lantern developers reverse engineer firmware updates in order to figure out how to hook Magic Lantern to a camera’s OS. Because of that, I’ve been hoping to see an attempt to get Magic Lantern on the T3i. Sure enough, I saw news of an “initial release” of Magic Lantern for the T3i. I have not tried it yet, but I will certainly let you know what I find once I have it installed. Yay!

UPDATE! Magic Lantern for the 600D/T3i is finally here!

  1. Looks like the initial T3i Magic Lantern is just a bootflag enabler… far from anything you can really “test” just yet, but I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of it and contributing where possible!

    1. I wonder if anyone has had the stones to try using the T2i ML on a T3i… there is a real chance that they could be compatible… “What’s the worst thing that could happen?” :)

      1. dunno – not sure what bits need to be changed for the t3i – I would imagine they have a different memory address entry point for the t3i – so…. you first (grin)
